Exam Procedure

For the students attending the lessons, the Exam Procedure is composed of two compulsory oral parts.

The first part consists of a lesson taught by the student on a research paper agreed with the teacher. During the final exam, the entire chapter, including the topic of the lesson, will be skipped.

The second part consists of an oral exam on all the remaining topics.

Only attending students can divide this latter oral exam into two mid-semester sub-exams; they can freely decide how many chapters they want to study for the first mid-semester sub-exam (0 or >0), which will be held approximately in mid-November.

It is worth mentioning that, as far as the organization of the chapters is concerned, the Network Algorithms exam is not highly recommended for students who, for any reason, cannot attend the lessons. Nevertheless, students who wish to take this exam anyway will have to take a unique oral exam, covering all topics.

CLARIFICATION: The students who decide to take the opportunity of the Midterm exams can divide the topics into at most two parts (in other words, it is not possible to be examined on a part of the program at the first Midterm, on another part in December, and on a third part during the exams of January/February).

SUGGESTION: The student's lesson should be organized in order to:

• Avoid the problem definition that has already been explained during the teacher's lessons
• Include at least a theoretical result (with proof)
• Avoid the presentation of experimental results possibly described in the paper.
