Modalità d'esame/Exam Procedure

For the students attending the lessons, the Exam Procedure is composed of two compulsory oral parts.

The first part consists of a lesson taught by the student on a research paper assigned by the teacher. During the final exam, the whole chapter, including the topic of the lesson, will be skipped.

The second part consists of an oral exam on all the remaining topics.

Only attending students can divide this latter oral exam into two mid-semester sub-exams; they can freely decide how many chapters they want to study for the first mid-semester sub-exam (0 or >0), which will be held approximately in Mid-November.

It is worth mentioning that, as far as the chapters are organized, the Network Algorithms exam is highly not recommended to students who, for any reason, cannot attend the lessons. Nevertheless, the students that anyway wish to take this exam will have to take a unique oral exam, including all topics.

CLARIFICATION: The students who decide to take the opportunity of the Midterm exams can divide the topics into at most two parts (in other words, it is not possible to be examined on a part of the program at the first Midterm, on another part in December and on a third part during the exams of January/February).

SUGGESTION: The student's lesson should be organized in order to:

• avoid the problem definition that has already been explained during the teacher's lessons
• include at least a theoretical result (with proof)
• avoid the presentation of experimental results possibly described in the paper.

Una prima prova di esame consiste in una lezione, tenuta dallo studente, su un argomento assegnato dal docente (tesina). Questo esonera lo studente da tutto il capitolo del programma relativo all'argomento della lezione svolta.

Una seconda prova consiste nell'esame orale su tutti gli altri capitoli.

I solo studenti frequentanti possono dividere quest'ultima in due parti e decidere liberamente quanti capitoli portare durante la prima parte, che potrà essere sostenuta approssimativamente a metà novembre.

Si sottolinea che, per come sono organizzati gli argomenti, questo esame è sconsigliato agli studenti che, per qualsiasi ragione, non seguano le lezioni. Tuttavia, gli studenti che comunque vogliano sostenere questo esame dovranno sostenere un unico orale su tutti gli argomenti del programma.

NOTA: Non è possibile dividere gli argomenti in più di due parti. Quindi, non è possibile sostenere l'esame su una prima parte a novembre, su una seconda parte a dicembre e su una terza a gennaio/febbraio.

SUGGERIMENTO: La tesina dovrebbe essere organizzata in modo da:

• evitare la definizione del problema già spiegata a lezione
• includere almeno un risultato teorico (con la dimostrazione)
• evitare di presentare i risultati sperimentali eventualmente descritti nell'articolo.
