Biography

Chiara Petrioli received the laurea degree with honors in Computer Science in 1993, and the PhD in Computer Engineering in 1998, both from University of Rome La Sapienza. She has been visiting research associate (under a Fulbright grant) at the Advanced Telecommunications Technology Laboratory, Boston University, USA. She has also been postdoc researcher at the Telecommunications Engineering Department, Politecnico di Milano (1998-2001). Since 2001 she has joined the Computer Science Department, University of Rome La Sapienza, first as assistant professor (2001-2006) and then as associate professor (2006-). Her interest regards the design, evaluation and test of novel telecommunication systems, with a particular emphasis towards mobile computing, wireless systems and the Internet of Things. She has contributed to these areas with over 80 papers (over 1940 citations, gindex=41, according to Publish and Perish).

Prof. Petrioli is Director of the SENSES laboratory, member of La Sapienza spinoff committee and member of the board of CINI (Consorzio Interuniversitario Nazionale per l'Informatica). She is also member of the steering commitee of IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, for which she also serves as associate editor, member of the steering committee of ACM Sensys. She has been program co-chair of leading conferences in the field of mobile computing such as ACM MobiCom and IEEE SECON. She periodically serves as reviewer for the European Commission. She has been PI of over 20 research projects, and advisor of 10 PhD students (5 graduated).
